This is a translation provided for convenience. The binding version is the Turkish text at anonvia.app/gizlilik. Anonvia operates from Türkiye and this policy is written against Turkish law.
In short
Anonvia is a social app where you can send anonymous messages to people you do not know. This text explains what information we collect, why we collect it and how long we keep it.
The two most important points:
- Anonymity is hidden from the other person, not from us. When you send an anonymous message the recipient cannot see who you are. But we can. Where conduct amounts to a criminal offence we report it to the authorities.
- Your age and sex are never displayed anywhere. We store them only so that the Anonvia Plus filters can work.
1. Information we collect
1.1 Information you give us
| Information | Required | Where it is used |
|---|---|---|
| Username | Yes | Shown on your profile |
| Password | Yes | Verified at sign-in |
| Email address | Yes | Account recovery |
| Year of birth | Yes | Age limit and Anonvia Plus filter |
| Sex | A choice is required | Anonvia Plus filter only |
| Profile photo | No | Shown on your profile |
| Bio and tags | No | Shown on your profile |
We cannot see your password. It is hashed irreversibly. Even someone with access to the database cannot read it.
We do not verify your email address. We do not check that the address you enter belongs to you.
Sex: You must make a selection during registration, but one of the options is "Prefer not to say". If you choose that, no information about your sex is stored.
1.2 Content you share
Posts, stories, messages, photographs, videos and voice messages.
1.3 Your activity in the app
| Information | Why |
|---|---|
| Rewards you send and receive | Profile counters; the sender is recorded |
| Taking a screenshot of view-once media | To warn the other person |
| People you block | So the block works |
| Reports you submit | To review them; the reporter is recorded |
| Moderation actions concerning you | If your content was removed or your account closed, who did it, when and why is recorded |
| Who viewed your story | To show the viewer list to the story owner |
| What you like | Like counters; to stop you liking the same thing twice |
| Who you follow | Following feed and follower counter |
| When you read a message | Read receipts for the other person (can be turned off in settings) |
| The private name you give a chat | Shown only to you; the other person cannot see it |
| Your purchase records | So rewards, Anonvia Plus and boosts work |
The sender is recorded for rewards. It is never shown on screen — the person receiving a reward only sees the counter go up. But who sent it is held in the database; this is needed for abuse and complaint investigations. When you send a reward a line appears in the chat; if you are anonymous in that chat it says "Someone anonymous" instead of your name, and if you are not anonymous your username appears.
Screenshots. While view-once media is open, screenshots cannot be taken on Android. On iPhone this cannot be prevented, so when one is taken a "took a screenshot" line appears in the chat and stays there. This applies only to view-once media; screenshots are not tracked in stories or ordinary messages.
1.4 Information collected automatically
| Information | Why |
|---|---|
| IP address | Required by Turkish Law No. 5651 |
| Device information | Same law; detecting fake accounts |
| Installation identifier | Matching accounts opened from the same device |
| Last active time | The "active now" indicator (can be turned off) |
| Sign-in records | Security |
| Notification token | So notifications can reach your phone |
The installation identifier is a number generated on your phone that is specific to this app. It is not an advertising identifier, it does not track you across apps and it is not shared with anyone.
The notification token is the address Apple and Google give your phone; it makes sure a notification reaches the right device. If you turn notifications off or sign out, this record is deleted.
1.5 Information we do not collect
- Location. The app never asks for your location.
- Your contacts. We do not access them.
- Card details. Payments go through the App Store and Google Play; we only see that a purchase took place.
- Your advertising identifier. We do not use ad networks.
2. What we use the information for
- Creating your account and signing you in
- Delivering your messages and showing your content
- Building the Discover list
- Running the Anonvia Plus filters (age, sex, last active)
- Keeping reward counters
- Detecting and blocking spam and harassment
- Reviewing reports
- Meeting legal obligations
We do not show advertising and we do not use your data for advertising.
3. What anonymity actually means
When you send an anonymous message:
- The recipient cannot see who you are. You are given a random code (such
as
#A7K2M). The recipient sees only that code. - The server knows who you are. The sender record, IP address and device information are kept.
- You can reveal yourself if you want. When you choose "Share my profile" the recipient sees who you are. This cannot be undone.
- Your identity is disclosed where a criminal offence is involved. Records are shared when a court order or a request from a competent authority is received.
Anonymity does not exempt you from responsibility.
4. How long we keep it
| Data | Period | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| IP address, device information, sign-in records | 2 years | Turkish Law No. 5651 |
| Story photographs and videos | Deleted 30 days after the story expires | Only as long as needed |
| Opened view-once media | 30 days | Same |
| Reported content | Indefinite | Investigation and legal requests |
| Posts, stories, profile information | Until you delete your account | Running the service |
| Messages | Indefinite — removed only if the sender chooses "delete for everyone" | Chat history is a shared record of two people |
| Reward records (who sent what to whom) | Until you delete your account | Counters and abuse investigation |
| Moderation records (removals, account closures) | Indefinite | Evidence in appeals; kept even if your account is deleted |
| Copy of a message you deleted for everyone | 2 years | Complaint investigation and legal requests |
Messages are not deleted automatically. Because chat history belongs to both people, it does not disappear at one person's request. "Delete for me" removes the message only from your screen; the record remains. The only action that truly removes a message is the sender choosing "delete for everyone" — and even then a copy of the content stays in the archive for two years (explained below). The app is not end-to-end encrypted: the server can read messages.
What "delete for everyone" does: The message disappears from the chat and both sides see "This message was deleted" in its place. However, a copy of the message is kept for two years. The reason: without this, someone writing harassment or threats could erase the evidence by deleting the message. No user can see this copy — neither sender nor recipient. Only the administrator account can access it, while reviewing a complaint or when a competent authority makes a request. It is deleted automatically after two years.
5. Who we share it with
Our service providers:
- Supabase — database and file storage
- Expo — delivering notifications to your phone
- Apple / Google — payment processing and notification delivery
- Cloudflare — hosting the anonvia.app website
How notifications travel: our server → Expo → Apple/Google → your phone. Expo receives your notification token and the notification title ("You have an anonymous message" or "@username wrote to you"). The text of the message is not sent; the notification only says "Tap to read".
These companies process the data solely to provide services to us and may not use it for their own purposes.
Your data is stored outside Türkiye. Supabase has no data centre in Türkiye; your account, your messages and the files you upload are held on servers abroad. Notifications also travel through Apple's and Google's systems abroad. This transfer is necessary for the service to work: without those servers your account cannot be created and your messages cannot be delivered. We rely on the necessity of the transfer for performance of the contract, and we have agreements with our providers containing data protection commitments.
Competent authorities: We share records when a court order or a request from a legally competent authority is received.
We share with no one else. We do not sell data.
6. How to exercise your rights
Under Article 11 of the Turkish Personal Data Protection Law (KVKK) you have the right to:
- Learn which of your data is processed
- Ask for correction if it has been processed incorrectly
- Ask for deletion
- Object to processing
- Request a copy of your data
How: write to [email protected]. We reply within 30 days at the latest.
You can delete your account yourself: Settings → Account → Delete my account. When it is deleted:
- Deleted: your username, email, password, profile photo, bio, tags, posts and stories.
- Kept for a further two years: your connection records — IP address, device information and sign-in times. Turkish Law No. 5651 requires this; we cannot choose not to keep them.
- Remains with the other person: the messages you sent. Those messages are also part of the other person's conversation; deleting them would take away their history too. Your name is no longer shown there.
7. Age limit
Anonvia is for people aged 18 and over. Anyone under 18 is prohibited from creating an account. When we identify an underage user we close the account and delete their data.
If you believe your child has an account, write to [email protected].
8. Security
- Passwords are hashed irreversibly
- All connections use an encrypted channel (HTTPS)
- Chat files can be accessed only by the parties to that chat; access is granted through short-lived links
- The identity of an anonymous sender is masked at the database level and never reaches the app
No system is one hundred per cent secure. In the event of a serious data breach we will notify the affected users and the Turkish Personal Data Protection Authority.
9. Changes
If we update this text the "Last updated" date at the top changes and we tell you when the app opens. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the current text.
